Japan 55MW UHV Photovoltaic Power Station

about project

The project is located in a high-latitude area of Japan characterized by extreme winter snowfall, steep terrain, and complex environmental conditions. To ensure long-term operational stability and safety, this 55MW solar power station was designed to comply with Japan’s stringent wind and snow load standards, and was engineered to integrate with the national UHV grid infrastructure for efficient energy transmission.

Client’s Challenge

To address the challenges posed by heavy and prolonged snowfall, the project adopted high-strength hot-dip galvanized steel mounting structures, which offer excellent corrosion resistance and load-bearing capacity. The overall structure was designed to withstand a snow load of up to 2.5kN/㎡, significantly exceeding the standard requirements in Japan. This ensures the system’s safety and stability even under extreme weather conditions. Additionally, a steep module tilt angle was applied, along with increased ground clearance for the mounting system, effectively reducing the risk of snow accumulation on the panels and improving energy generation efficiency during winter.

Moreover, the project is connected to Japan’s national ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission system, enabling highly efficient electricity transmission and centralized energy utilization. Compared to conventional medium- or low-voltage grid connections, UHV systems provide stronger transmission capabilities and lower power losses, making them particularly suitable for large-scale ground-mounted solar power plants. This connection not only enhances the station’s overall output efficiency but also contributes to the clean energy supply of the local grid.

In terms of structural design, the mounting system was tailored to accommodate the site’s uneven terrain and soil conditions. A modular and adjustable installation approach was adopted to allow for flexible deployment in complex landscapes. Furthermore, the use of pre-assembled supports and a standardized construction process significantly shortened the winter construction timeline and mitigated the impact of harsh weather on-site operations.
